I mean what self respecting geek doesn’t have thoughts about building a real lightsaber one day? But man, why in the middle of the night? Okay I figured out some stuff a while back, I think at work, and just getting around to posting now.
A while back, must have been early june I guess, just after I got my think geek lightsaber (man paid too much for that), I started to look into how to make prop lightsabers for fun, so you could do those mock battles and such. During that search, I came across some sort of ‘professional’ scientist’s take on lightsabers. Couple of really interesting points, mostly that it could be done, but you’d really have to look out for mirrored or shiny surfaces as it would reflect the cutting beam, as well as the fact you couldn’t get the blades to clash at all.
Now, there’s alot of different cutting tech at work, and I guess that got me thinking. I know CRTs and stuff use magnets to bend light and radation to get the effects on screen. Now.. couldn’t you use magnetic fields to contain the light, still able to cut (lets say constantly shifting … eww, polarity so it doesn’t prevent you from getting near metal objects), then you would actually be able to clash lightsabers, yet still cut with the beams of light. Though I guess even then you’d have to somewhat worry about reflective surfaces.
Okay, it sounded alot more feasable in my head, now it seems just as infesable as the original article said.

Yes, i’m back, back on Movable Type.
Back to using MTLJPost (well playing with it and upgrading to use the new MT3 stuff as much as possible.
Been anxiously awaiting sci-fi friday all weeek.
Unfortuatly being I’m in canada and have basic if that cable, i have to wait a bit longer :(.
I mean, its not hard to tell that i’m a stargate fan, and now, there is 2 stargates and a Battlestar Galactica (which interesting enough, i went to highschool with one of the actresses) on fridays. Once I get my mythtv thing setup again properly (had cabling issues), I probably will consider ordering a dish or something so i can get this stuff properly (my tv card handles changing channels on recievers).
I’m going to try and keep this site updated again, although for whatever reasons i’ve stopped in the past, will probaly happen again.
Although I’ve gotten almost everything needed for http://hosting.kodekoan.com done, just a small tweak of the ftp, and all the frontend managemnet system (like changing passwords, adding email address, etc)

So been spending the last few days trying to upgrade my software to support typekey. Today it dawned on me I had no idea how it ACTUALLY worked, just sorta trusted that It did. Well that and trying to figure out how to uniquely identify a user.
And now finding out that each typekey user has a unique username, and earlier finding out that typekey uses a private / public key system, I’ve been that much more impressed by it.
I think for KodePost (a clean non hacked version), I’m going to allow Registered Users, Typekey, and Typein/Anonymous users. This makes it much easier for people to comment, and for me to integrate with KodeKomics at a later date.
In other news, I almost got MTLJPost back up and running again for MT3.0. I just have to fix one more bug and get my tester happy with it. Then I can release a new cleaner version.
Anyways, back to job hunting, gotta pay bills and stuff like that.

HAHA, this site is now RSS validated again.
I didn’t know what format I actually had, something I used from the old MT installation, but now its working again.
http://halkeye.net/rss.cgi
I think all that is left is some validation in the xmlrpc interface, and then I’ll start a cleaner version… KodePost or something. It’ll go along nicely with my awesome comic system (KodeKomic)

Have been finishing off watching my Stargate SG-1 Season 7 dvds. I can’t figure out why they replaced Dr Wei with a new actress. I actually think the first one was a better fit for the role. And according to Jessica Steen (first actress)’s website, she didn’t know why her character was re-casted.
How can you go wrong with the pilot from the captain power tv show?
I mean, I used to watch that show as a kid, before they were not allowed to have anything flashing on the tv, it rocked. I always wanted one of those toys.
I miss that show. I checked, amazon only has the vhs, no dvds.
